The King & the Kingdom

The King & the Kingdom

Matthew 2 begins with a question that has been asked by many, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:2) The great king, the son of David, the one who would deliver the people, had long been sought. The book of Matthew is focused on proclaiming this king, the Messiah, the one who came to save. Throughout the book of Matthew, the king and His kingdom are proclaimed but His kingship and His kingdom are nothing like what was expected.

Instead of coming to a throne, he came to a manger; instead of a royal welcome, shepherds proclaimed His birth; instead of a life of ease, he lived a life of suffering; and the crown of gold lay on the other side of a crown of thorns. His victory was not won with the sword but with the cross, and deliverance was not from Roman occupation but from sin. And if His kingship looks different than expected so does His kingdom. Woven throughout the book of Matthew is His instructions to us on how the children of the king are to live in His kingdom.

Come join us as we study through the book of Matthew and look at the great King and His kingdom.
